Stories

Ever since my brother and Inna arrived from Vietnam, our food supply depletes so much by Wednesday that I have to go for the second round of grocery shopping. The first time it happened, the cashier girl at my local store noticed that I was rebelling against my weekly Saturday ritual, and asked where my mum was (as I go shopping with her). She thought I was still in high school because I looked so young and assumed I was truanting. It was ironic because I thought she was in high school and was taking this part time job to spend on shoes and clothes. But, in fact, she was a business student at QUT, first-year, one year younger than me, and was taking this job to actually save up for a European tour next year. I told her I am on my gap year (and a half) and am working for my mum's home business. She was quite shocked. How funny it is that we invent each other's stories, and funnier how they are almost never right.
